Penza, 5 April 2016. PenzaNews. The Penza region lacks 720 medical professionals, announced the governor Ivan Belozertsev in his report at the 34th regular session of the regional Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, April 5.

Even though there is not enough staff, the region continues gradually working on making healthcare affordable and reducing population mortality, he pointed out.

“We are constantly screening the population for early detection of illnesses and diseases that lead to high mortality and disability. We restored the mass standard medical examination system for adults and conduct preventive examinations for children,” the head of the region explained.

Moreover, 40% of the regional citizens were covered by all medical examination, and 19 municipalities introduced targeted medical examination measures in 2015 in addition to the federal projects.

“The undertaken measures have a positive effect in the overall quality of life. The life expectancy at birth is growing. The infant mortality rate has dropped by 22% compared to 2014,” the governor stressed.
