"Over the last several years our region has been marked by a noticeable activity of persons over the age of 60 who undergo prophylactic medical examination. Whereas in the Russian Federation the share of persons over the age of 60 who underwent the medical examination is slightly over 20%, in the Penza region it equals to 33-35%. It never falls below this level," she noted at the meeting of the gubernatorial council for veterans' affairs in the Penza region government on Tuesday, November 14.

According to Natalya Tyugaeva, this is due not only to the large number of pensioners in the population structure of the Penza region but also due to their interest in maintaining their health.

In turn, the deputy chief medical officer for the outpatient department of the city clinic Elena Semechkina noted that according to the results of nine months of the year 2017, 28,350 elderly people had undergone prophylactic medical examination in Penza.

"308 of them were diagnosed with neoplasms including malignant tumours, and 540 of them – with diabetes mellitus.

Doctors also registered 15,000 diseases of the cardiovascular system including 304 cases that were registered for the first time, increased blood pressure, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract," she specified.
