Penza oncology dispensary purchases new radiation therapy equipment

Penza, 23 November 2017. PenzaNews. The Penza oncology dispensary purchased radiation-monitoring equipment, which serves as a support element for the accelerator complex Elekta Infinity used for cancer treatment.

The new equipment kit is a solid phantom with a set of semiconductor detectors, which register radiation dose distribution over the tumour nidus.
Then, calculated and measured the doses are compared with the help of special software. This allows checking the treatment plan when using high-precision radiation technique.
"With the help of the phantom we are absolutely sure that tumour tissues receive the necessary dose of radiation without damaging healthy tissues nearby," the chief specialist of radiation diagnostics of the Penza oncology dispensary Alexander Zinovyev.
As it was reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Health, the new equipment worth 6.5 million roubles had been purchased at the expense of the regional budget for provision of high-technology medical assistance.
A three-day training course conducted by an expert from Sweden was organized for specialists of the department.
