"The fact that our region shows good performance in keeping the register, updating information on patients, and carrying out glycohemoglobin tests influenced the quality of our patients' life. In particular, life expectancy in patients with type I diabetes is 57.1 years and type II – 73.7 years in the Penza region," chief endocrinologist of the Ministry of Health of the Penza region Ekaterina Knyazkina commented on the results of the rating.
On average, in Russia patients with type I diabetes live 53.7 years, type II – 73.1 years.
Ekaterina Knyazkina noted that in the Penza region there were over 47,000 patients with diabetes and this number was increasing by about 2,500 people a year but even more patients remained unregistered.
"Therefore, if during medical examination or occupational medical examinations a patient finds out they have a high glucose level, they shouldn't in any case postpone a visit to the clinic," the press service of the regional Ministry of Health quotes Ekaterina Knyazkina.
