Penza, 24 June 2021. PenzaNews. The number of intensive care beds at the Penza Regional Clinical Centre for Specialized Types of Medical Care, where patients with COVID-19 and severe pneumonia are admitted, doubled by half since Thursday, June 24. This was announced by Dzhamilya Kurmaeva, deputy chief physician of the centre.

“From today on, we have 60 emergency beds instead of 40 as before,” she told journalists during a briefing at the institution.

Dzhamilya Kurmaeva added that 38 patients were in intensive care at that time, of whom 29 were on ventilators.

“There is not a single vaccinated patient among them. [...] I should point out that one in three is under the age of 50,” stressed the deputy chief physician.

The centre has a total of 517 beds, she says, with coronavirus and pneumonia patients occupying 380 beds.

“We are now on duty for severe patients only. About 30-40 people are admitted every day, 2-3 of them are sent to intensive care,” she said.
