The anti-terrorism exercises in Penza

Penza, 24 May 2011. PenzaNews. Scale antiterrorist exercises with the participation of the officers from local law administrative departments took place under the control of the Emergency operations center in the Penza region on the territory of the station Penza-I on Tuesday, on May, 24.

According to the scenario, at 7.00 Moscow time at the railway station Penza-III some unknown persons destroyed a military sentry and occupied cars with the ammunition, intended for sending on recycling to the other region. After that they overtook them to the area of the station Penza-I.

In the course of evacuation of the passengers and the personnel from the station building the "terrorists" carried out a "blowing up" of the improvised explosive device in the waiting room. As a result some persons suffered from it. The "terrorists" put forward some demands, including 5m euro. In case their demands won't be fulfilled they posed a threat to blow up cars with the ammunition.

The press-center of the Emergency operations center of the Penza region said: "To prevent act of terrorism the head of the Emergency operations center of the Penza region major-general Victor Kunov according to the Federal law «About counteraction to terrorism» decided to carry out a counterterrorism operation (WHO) and put in place a legal regime WHO with application of measures and temporary restrictions of fundamental laws and freedom of the citizens".

During the operation there were found accomplices of the terrorists, a place of their disposition, and also the car mined by them in the area of the station. The bomb was neutralized by the bomb-disposal experts with the use of a robotics complex and a water gun. The terrorists were detained.

Professional mine clearing of cars with ammunition became a final stage of tactical exercises.

The press-service of the Emergency operations center underlined "the need for such training for practicing the interaction of all law enforcement bodies with federal executive authorities and other relevant departments in the region in case of occurrence a terroristic threat".
