The executive director of Penza fund of local community “Civil Union” (Grazhdansky Souz) Oleg Sharipkov considers that the law “On Governor Elections in Penza region” can be protested. He stated this in the interview to the news agency “PenzaNews,” commenting on the document passed by deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the region on Wednesday, May 30.

“I consider it infringement of citizens’ rights that the law does not provide self-promoted candidates the opportunity to participate in governor elections,” said the head of the public organization.

Oleg Sharipkov reminded that the present governor Vasily Bochkarev who has been heading the Penza region since 1998, was two times re-nominated to the highest post in the region at the initiative of the president of the Russian Federation and was twice chosen by people as an independent candidate, not representing any of the political parties existing at that time.

“I think that there are people who are against such a situation and this legal case can be very prospective. It can be interesting for lawyers who want to promote themselves, for those who will become the Legislative Assembly deputies in one-mandatory districts and in general for those citizens who may be potentially interested in self-promotion before the elections,” concluded the spokesman.
