Penza, 11 August 2012. PenzaNews. Political and economic monopoly of one social group is one of the main problems of the Penza region, as well as of some other regions of Russia. “In political terms – it is United Russia party, and economically – it is circle of businessmen close to the government. Elections to the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region is a
great opportunity for the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) to destroy the political monopoly and then, creating real competition, to destroy the economic monopoly which is reliance of the current government,” he explained.

Yuri Afonin stressed that “the CPRF could give a serious fight to United Russia” at the October elections to the regional parliament.

“Those calculations made by us and by independent agencies suggest that in fact there are two parties which dominate in the political space of the Penza region – the United Russia and the CPRF. If supported by the Central Committee of the party, electorate and allies we ensure fair vote on the election day, then we have a good chance not only to compete with the United Russia but to win it,” Secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee said.

Elections to the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region of the fifth convocation will be held in the region on October 14, 2012. The election will be held on a mixed system: 18 deputies will be elected based on party lists, the other 18 — in single-seat constituencies.
