Penza governor proposed introducing official Day of civil servant

Penza, 26 August 2013. PenzaNews. The governor of the Penza region Vasily Bochkarev appealed to the Council of the Federation suggesting to introduce the Day of a civil servant. In a letter to the chairman of the upper house of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matvienko, the head of the region explained that there are over 700 thousand civil servants.

“I believe that this category of employees has been unjustly forgotten (in terms of their professional holiday), and suggest correcting this injustice,” the document, a copy of which is available to news agency “PenzaNews,” states.
According to the letter, the date for the celebration suggested by the governor is January 24.
“The choice is not accidental: on January 24, 1722 Peter I approved the law on the procedure of public service in the Russian Empire, which was named “Table of Ranks.” So, I am asking you, dear Valentina Ivanovna [Matvienko], to support the idea and consider adding this day to the list of public (non-working), professional holidays and memorial days of the Russian Federation,” the letter of the governor of the Penza region reads.
