Penza, 19 August 2014. PenzaNews. Sergei Sedov, Registered candidate for Penza city council in single-mandate district No. 3 from the regional branch of “United Russia” party, sent an official request to the law enforcement agencies to investigate the appearance of his name in a fake campaign material, as well as find out the identities of persons involved in the distribution, their sources of funding and the place of manufacture of fake leaflets.
As the press service of Penza regional branch of the United Russia told news agency “PenzaNews,” the schedule of the candidate did not include any meetings at the appointed time and place.
“No leaflet production order from Sergei Sedov were placed anywhere,” the spokesperson at the “United Russia” headquarters stressed, commenting on LDPR statement that the candidate from the ruling party allegedly violated the law by not specifying the source of funding of the leaflets.
“As soon as the false papers appear in the candidate’s district, Zhirinovsky’s followers immediately filed a complaint to the Penza election committee. And they also put information on the Internet that one of the United Russia candidates violated the Fair Elections agreement, although the Liberal Democratic Party itself publicly refused to sign it,” the press service reminded.
“As September 14 draws closer, the political games become more stressful. ‘Dirty’ PR-technologies came into play. Perhaps, out of desperation from some of the participants of the race,” the press service of the United Russia suggested.
According to official data for August 18, 2014, three candidates — Viktor Lepekhin (LDPR), Nina Pugacheva (self-nominated) and Sergei Sedov (“United Russia”) — were registered for the elections in the district No. 3.
