Penza, 10 March 2015. PenzaNews. Vasily Bochkarev, governor of the Penza region, ordered to work on allocating land plots to state officials for potato farming. “In the Penza region, in Russia, potato prices reaching 30 rubles per kilogram means we all do nothing: neither the working-age population, nor you or me as officials,” Vasily Bochkarev said during the report of the regional Minister of Agriculture Andrei Burlakov at the meeting session held in regional government on Tuesday, March 10.

According to the governor, a cultivated land with growing food cultures must be a visible result of their work.

As Andrei Burlakov noted, the officials had already taken certain steps in that area.

“There are now more and more people who want to grow potatoes and vegetables, especially open-ground vegetables,” he said, adding that actual agreements back up that statement.

However, the governor was dissatisfied, and asked the officials to show people how to feed themselves with a garden on their own example.

“Rubtsov [vice-governor of the Penza region], please allocate plots of land for potato farming to officials of all ministries and departments,” Vasily Bochkarev instructed.

“That is a good idea,” Andrei Burlakov reacted to the governor’s initiative.

“To everyone. You and me as well,” the governor said.

“I already have a land plot,” noted the head of the regional Ministry of Agriculture.

“And to the minister,” the head of the region stressed.

“Will be done,” Andrei Burlakov said, ready to fulfill the task entrusted by the governor.
