The first person to speak to the audience was Vladimir Kerkhanadzhev, WWII veteran, fighter of the Battle for Stalingrad and the Battle of Kursk, chairman of the city council of war, labor, military and law enforcement veterans, Honorable Citizen of Penza. He thanked the Communists for moving the monument to the leader of the Soviet people to a better, more noticeable location.
“All heroic deeds, all achievements wonders of the Soviet Union is connected with Stalin,” he pointed out.
Vladimir Kerkhanadzhev stressed that the generation of winners, people who lived most of their lives in the Soviet age, will never forget the contribution of the Soviet Union Generalissimus to the prosperity of the great nation.
He was followed by Vladimir Simagin, Russian Duma deputy of the Penza region.
“Five years ago, when we celebrated the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory, many veterans went to the regional CPRF committee with a single plea: ‘We do not want to pass away without a last bow to the man for whom we fought and gave our lives.’ In 2011, we opened the monument to Joseph Stalin,” he reminded.
According to the high-ranking official, fresh flowers always graced the monument throughout the four years on its former location – by the previous regional committee building on Darvina street.
Vladimir Simagin also made an address to the journalists who attended the unveiling ceremony.
“When you will be making the reports, please, pay attention to these enlightened, bright faces of our veterans. Please, do not smear them or hurt their feelings. They did it all together with this great personality for us to live happy and worthy lives,” he said.
In his turn, Georgy Kamnev, first secretary of the CPRF regional committee, deputy of the Penza region Legislative Assembly, noted that the new location for the Joseph Stalin monument signifies the start of a new stage in the timeline of the local Communist Party branch.
“We even placed a plaque there – ‘Penza gubernia committee of the RSDLP(b),’ the starting point. Today is a particularly important and big day for us,” he said.
According to Georgy Kamnev, the Moscow Kremlin that inspired the design of the Penza region party committee building, Joseph Stalin and all Communist Party members are symbols of steadfast authority and care for a regular person.
“We see our mission in preventing attempts to smear our Soviet Union past, pass forth the bright history of our country in those years,” said the leader of the Penza Communists.
He also reminded of two notable events that took place on September 9.
“Today is Beauty Day. And our event here is a beautiful one indeed. Beautiful building, beautiful monument, beautiful people. And one more thing. On this day in 1937, the newspaper ‘Pravda’ published ‘The Cantata to Stalin.’ People thanked their leader for what he did for them,” Georgy Kamnev explained.
The speeches were followed by the unveiling ceremony proper, during which people laid flowers to the Joseph Stalin monument.
After the official event, the audience took part in a tour through the new committee building and looked through the photo exhibition dedicated to the emergence and development of the Soviet power and the Communist movement in the Penza region, from early 20th century to present day, with some photos made available to the public for the first time.
The Penza region committee plans to make these photo exhibitions regular.
The next point on the day’s schedule was a press conference of Vladimir Simagin, Georgy Kamnev, and the secretary of the CPRF Crimea Republic committee Valery Lavrov, who was born in the Penza region.
Georgy Kamnev reminded the journalists that the new Penza committee building on Kirova street was bought using the funds of the Central Party Committee.
“I would like to take this opportunity to once again express the utmost gratitude of the regional committee to the heads of our Central Committee – Gennady Andreevich Zyuganov, and other comrades who helped us obtain this building. First of all, these are Yuri Vyacheslavovich Afonin, Central Committee secretary; Alexei Alexeevich Ponomarev, CC procurator; and Olga Yuryevna Kibis, chief accountant at the Central Committee,” he said.
As a sign of gratitude, the portraits of these people were placed on the walls close to the entrance to the regional committee building, added the leader of the Penza Communists.
