Penza, 23 August 2017. PenzaNews. CPRF is the only opposition party in the Penza region, which helps to develop the region pointing to the most urgent issues. Such opinion was expressed by Yuri Afonin, deputy chairman of the CPRF Central Committee, first deputy head of the Russian State Duma commission on natural resources, property and land relations.

"I am sure that the region cannot develop without a strong CPRF team, which is the only opposition party in the region. [...] The role of the opposition as long as it has not come to power is to control many processes including those that have to do with corruption and expenditure efficiency," he said at a press conference in the Penza Stalin Centre on Wednesday, August 23.

According to Yuri Afonin, United Russia must be interested in "existence of real opposition but not in mere indulgence".

"Unfortunately, in the Russian Federation the power is built in a way that people are afraid of telling the truth, which results in different absurd incidents," the deputy chairman of the CPRF Central Committee noted.
