Human rights activist Yuri Voblikov elected deputy

Penza, 11 September 2017. PenzaNews. The human rights activist Yuri Voblikov, known by a moniker “the Gas Mask Man” thanks to an unusual approach to organization of street protests was elected a deputy of the local self-government commission of the Kamensky village council of the Kamensky area of the Penza region of the 2nd convocation in one-candidate constituency No. 7 in the course of the additional elections held on Sunday, September 10.

Political contenders of Yuri Voblikov, who took part in the elections as a self-nominated candidate, were two women – Svetlana Bokaryova, born 1970, from the United Russia party, and 43-year-old Inna Lazareva from LDPR.
As a result, Yuri Voblikov who had celebrated his 62nd anniversary in July received more votes than other candidates – 35.
Svetlana Bokaryova received 19 votes, Inna Lazareva – only 5.
During the 2017 election campaign, Yuri Voblikov also intended to become a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region on the 6th convocation but he received a refusal when trying to register as a candidate.
