In the first half of February, heads of the Penza regional department of the Left Front may be subjected to administrative arrests on fabricated cases for the term of up to 15 days. This was said in the message spread by movement representatives on Friday, January 26.

"Left Front activities connected primarily with the support of deceived construction investors seriously frightened regional authorities. According to information received from reliable sources, in the near future pressure on the Left Front will be intensified. A series of provocations is prepared. Already in the first half of February heads of the regional Left Front department may be subjected to administrative arrests on fabricated cases for the term of up to 15 days. Thus, with the help of power structures and courts the authorities can try to paralyze work of the Left Front in the region for some period of time. However, we are stating with all responsibility: in case of detention and arrests of Left Front heads we will work with triple efforts," the message reads.

According to representatives of the movement, "it is the government that raises the stakes, radicalises public activity, excludes any alternative opinion" and instead of a peaceful discussion of issues "starts an oppressive machine, arranges bullying in the mass media".

The Left Front thinks that the arrests will be accompanied by a dirty information campaign of the media controlled by the government and that Alexander Tuzov, ex-officer of the Federal Security Service, member of the public council under the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, founder of an Internet medium, will be involved in the process.

"The campaign has been conducted for a very long time but it has never acquired such a scale. All dirt from Tuzov's website will be shown on other information sites that closely cooperate with the authorities. According to our data, in the near future Alexander Tuzov and his colleagues will receive ‘valuable instructions’ from the authorities to discredit heads of the regional Left Front department," the message continues.

"The Left Front states that they are aware of the preparation of these provocations. The central leadership of the movement is also informed about them. Administrative arrests will not make us keep quiet and give up our fight. Let the power writhe with impotent malice, we know that we will not be intimidated as the truth is on our side. And those are stronger who have the truth. In case of arrests of our activists and other provocations the authorities will receive an adequate response to their actions," it adds.
