It took place at the embassy in Moscow on the initiative of the diplomat appointed three months ago – previously, Zhang Hanhui had held the post of Deputy Foreign Minister of China.
The Russian delegation was headed by Gennady Zyuganov, Chairman of the CPRF Central Committee. His deputies Yuri Afonin, Vladimir Kashin, Dmitry Novikov and Ivan Melnikov, who is also the vice-speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the head of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society, were present at the event.
During the meeting, Gennady Zyuganov wished the Chinese side development and prosperity, noting that China remained a beacon of socialism.
For his part, Zhang Hanhui stressed that he intended to contribute to further development of bilateral relations.
Commenting on the results of the event held at the Embassy, Georgy Kamnev expressed confidence that communication in that format contributed to the implementation of joint projects both at the state level and at the party level – in the framework of cooperation between the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPFR) and the Communist Party of China (CPC).
"It goes without saying that such ties are very important and necessary for strengthening friendship and development of cooperation between our countries," Georgy Kamnev said.
He explained that under the experience-sharing agreement between CPRF and CPC, a great deal of work was being conducted. Communists from Penza region as well as those from other regions of Russia were actively involved.
In particular, Georgy Kamnev recalled that he had been to China twice the previous year – in May, when he participated in three major international events, including the SCO parliamentary party conference, and in December – when he was assigned to lead a delegation of CPRF to Beijing and Shanghai, where he held a number of important meetings with representatives of CPC governing bodies.
The member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation added that the options for cooperation between the regions of the two countries were currently being explored, and the possibility of organizing a visit of communists from the People's Republic of China to Penza region to share experience was being considered.
