Penza, 16 August 2011. PenzaNews. Celebration devoted to the Day of national flag of the Russian Federation will take place in Penza on Sunday, August, 21st. Carrying out of the competition of drawings on asphalt and a concert of the best national choreographic collectives such as "Venzelya" are planned to be organized at Fantannaya square.

Day of national flag is celebrated in Russia on August, 22nd. For the first time three-colored flag appeared on the first Russian military ship "Orel" during Alexey Mihajlovicha reign in 17th century. On January, 20th, 1705 Peter the First published the decree according to white-blue-red flag should be lifted on any trading ships.

Three-colored flag became an official symbol of Russia again in 1991.

The press-service of city administration said:

"According to one version, white color means freedom, dark blue — the Virgin patronizing Russia, red — sovereign. According to other version, white color symbolizes nobleness, dark blue — honesty, and red — boldness and the magnanimity inherent of Russian people".
