Penza, 12 January 2012. PenzaNews. Police officers in Penza region found the mother of the baby abandoned at Gorodische Central District Hospital on the night of January 10.

As the representative of the press-service of the Department of the Ministry of the Interior told news agency PenzaNews, a 23-year-old resident of Gorodische is single and already raises two children.

The spokesperson clarified: “According to the woman, she was not sure whether she would be able to raise a third child on her own. Thus, having wrapped the baby in a warm blanket she left it at the hospital’s doorstep, then called 03 and reported about the abandoned baby. An inquiry into this incident is being conducted, following which a procedural decision will be taken.”

The baby is now kept at the regional children’s hospital. No pathologies have been identified following a primary medical examination.

As news agency PenzaNews reported earlier, the baby had excessive exposure to cold and conjunctivitis when found at the hospital’s doorstep.
