Penza, 1 May 2012. PenzaNews. Rally of workers, trade unions and youth of the region took place at Lenin Square in Penza on Tuesday, May 1. According to the chairman of Legislative Assembly of the Penza region Alexander Gulyakov, May Day is a holiday of working people, those who create benefits for themselves, for the region and the country.

“In 2011 the Penza region had the best economic indicators in the Volga federal district. This became possible thanks to you, residents of the region,” he said encouraging everybody to unite efforts of power authorities and society for the further state development.

In turn, the chairman of the regional federation of trade unions Victor Avdonin said that May Day is a favourite holiday of different generations.

“For senior people it is a holiday of working-class solidarity but the youth consider it to be a day of spring mood and hope for a better future,” he said and added that each citizen, irrespective of social status, can make the contribution to life quality improvement.

Participants of the rally unanimously supported and adopted the resolution. Support of the declared by federal government political and socio-economic policies aimed at modernization and innovative development of the state and also strengthening of the country positions on international scene was also declared in the text of the resolution.

Among the requirements listed in the document there is creation of the Ministry of Labor, establishing minimum wage at a living wage level with its further increase, strengthening employers’ amenability for violation of the rights of workers and others.

“We declare our firm determination to assert and defend the rights and interests of workers. Our guarantee for this is our unity and solidarity, our love to our Motherland and aspiration to unite efforts in the name of the main goal — greatness and prosperity of our Motherland, welfare of its citizens,” says the resolution.
