Exact terms of the well-known economist’s bust installation have not been approved yet.

As it was reported earlier, the decision to dismantle the monument was taken because the bust was in the altar part of Spassky Cathedral being restored at Sovetskaya Square.

According to “Penza Encyclopedia,” the first monument of Karl Marx in Europe was open on Sovetskaya Square in Penza on May 1, 1918 near the governor’s house. Sculptor E.V. Ravdel made a half-length portrait of German philosopher, sociologist, economist and public figure from short-lived clay and in a week the monument was removed.

On November 7, 1918 the new monument foundation was laid in the top part of Nikolskaya Street (nowadays Karl Marx Street). However, it was not built. On June 17, 1920 the monument was open in Narovchat.

The new monument of Karl Marx was created by a sculptor S.S. Alyoshin and by an architect, winner of the State award G.A. Zakharov. It was unveiled on Sovetskaya Square on November 5, 1960. The bronze two-meter bust was installed on a six-meter granite pedestal in the place of the former altar of Spassky Cathedral demolished in 1934. On July 13, 2011 it was dismantled for restoration.
