African Swine Fever prevention exercise held in Penza region

Penza, 5 June 2012. PenzaNews. The department of internal veterinary supervision Rosselkhoznadzor for the Penza region in conjunction with the Veterinary Service of the Mokshansky area held exercises on elimination of African swine fever (ASF) in the village of Ramzay.

“Staff of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and the Rectification of the Consequences of Natural Disasters, police officers, heads of village administrations of the Mokshansky area and heads of farm enterprises attended the exercises. The seminar participants were introduced to technical tools and techniques that would be used in case of ASF, for instance, processing of vehicles and protective equipment for Veterinary Service staff working in the area of African swine fever,” the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor said.
The participants of the event were explained the rules of animals’ alienation, killing and destruction. They were also shown a video on the elimination of ASF in Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov, Saratov and other areas where the outbreaks of ASF had been detected.
In conclusion, the specialists of the Veterinary Service and Rosselkhoznadzor answered questions on ASF prevention and elimination and gave recommendations on the rules of keeping and feeding pigs to prevent the spread of African swine fever in the Penza region.
