150 persons get bitten by ticks in Penza region over past week

Penza, 8 June 2012. PenzaNews. 150 residents of the Penza region including 49 children aged up to 14 got bitten by ticks during the week of June 1–7.

As the press service of the regional department of the Russian Consumer Protection Agency told news agency “PenzaNews,” 11 ticks collected from the injured persons had been studied to identify ixodic borreliosis during the said period. Tick-borne borreliosis was found in three of those samples.

“In total, 719 persons have resorted to treatment and prevention facilities since the beginning of the year. 24 injured persons were registered in the Olympic Avenue including two injured in the period between June 1 and June 7,” the agency noted.

Acaricide treatment has been performed in 26 suburban camps, 56 school camps and 1 tent camp, 2 children's health resorts, 1 kindergarten, 4 health resorts for adults, 1 recreational base, nursery for dogs and the Olympic Avenue.
