Penza, 29 June 2012. PenzaNews. Most of Russian schools should have Internet access via optical fiber cable. This was declared by the Minister of Communications Nikolay Nikiforov during a meeting with Authorized Representative of Russian President in Volga (Privolzhsky) Federal District on the efficiency of public administration, which took place in Penza on Friday, June 29.

“Of course, it would be impossible to achieve one hundred percent rate connection. Some schools are located in remote areas, and some have few pupils, but more than 90% of educational institutions possess all the necessary qualities to be connected to high-speed Internet,” he said.

According to Nikolay Nikiforov, regional authorities must have a serious talk with the operators to solve the problem quickly and efficiently.

The governor of the Samara region, Nikolay Merkushkin noted that most schools need to have high speed Internet access, but the implementation can be difficult. “The particular reason for this may become the fact that optical fiber is currently not produced in Russia,” underlined Nikolay Merkushkin.
