Penza, 2 August 2012. PenzaNews. Celebrations of the Day of Airborne Forces were held in Penza on Tuesday, August 2. The celebration began with a meeting near the monument “Razorvannaya Zvezda” (Torn star) at Victory Ave, where all the gathered commemorated the dead with a moment of silence, and laid flowers.

The paratroopers were greeted by the chairman of the board of the regional organization “Russian Union of Afghanistan Veterans” Vladimir Holzinev, and the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region Alexander Gulyakov. They thanked the paratroopers for diligent service, wished them good health, and expressed confidence that they are making a huge contribution to the education of the younger generation.

After the meeting and the ceremony of awards to the veterans of the Airborne Forces, all the assembled started off to the monument of military and labor glory of Penza residents, and then to the memorial of “Afghan Gate,” where they laid flowers and commemorated those killed in wars.

Celebrations wound up at the stadium “Pervomayskiy” with a concert.
