Penza, 2 August 2012. PenzaNews. Over 30 cubs were born at Penza Zoo since the beginning of 2012. Madagascar lemurs, which got the offspring in July, became 32d specie of animals to replenish the zoo exhibit. “More animals have given birth this year compared to previous years — jungle cat, porcupine, capuchins, Przewalski horse, domestic goats, and others,” explained the zoo methodologist Lyudmila Akulyushina.

According to her, there are species which regularly breed in the zoo like camels, sika deer, and representatives of the class of birds.
“There are those which have produced offspring for the first time. Besides lemurs, those are raccoons, which try to hide their cub from the strangers,” informed Lyudmila Akulyushina.
She emphasized that all the newborn cubs are closely watched and taken care of by zoologists, and for the animal couples the necessary conditions are created.
“At present, only Tikhon the bear and the black jaguar Princess have no partner at the zoo because they have come out of their reproductive age. In other cases, each specie has ideal breeding conditions, that is why the annual increase is observed,” clarified the agency interlocutor.
Lyudmila Akulyushina stressed that the zoo staff are glad to see the animals, which have recently acquired the offspring.
“It is particularly interesting to observe the mute swans, which this year have four chicks. Adult birds give the little ones a ride over the lake, feed them from the beak, and never leave them alone, both parents take part in the chicks’ upbringing,” the methodologist shared her impressions.
