Penza, 19 September 2012. PenzaNews. Ban on hare hunting is put in force in the Penza region in the current hunting season for the sake of conservation and reproduction of grey and white hares.

“Analyzing the dynamics of the number of animals in the region over the past eight years, it may be noted that the number of hares lowered from 38 thousand in 2004 to 15,7 thousand in 2012. That is why we put the ban,” explained the press service of the Ministry of forestry, hunting and nature of the Penza region.

The ministry added that it expects the increase in the number of hares by reducing the number of predators.

“Beginning with September 15 of the current year fox hunting is open, the number of which is quite high in the region, and from October 1 — marten hunting will be on. Reducing the number of these predators will ease the pressure on some hunting resources, including hares,” the press service said.
