Penza, 12 October 2012. PenzaNews. Prison sentence for drivers got into an accident while intoxicated, should be increased. This opinion was expressed by the deputy chairman of the committee of the State Duma on rules and management of the lower house of Parliament, a member of LDPR faction Alexander Kurdyumov during a meeting with reporters at news agency PenzaNews on Friday, October 12.

“Besides children on Minskaya St in Moscow, other children suffered. We have talked a lot about this. It is necessary to toughen the punishment for those who dare driving drunk. In my point of view toughening means the increase of imprisonment term, vehicle confiscation, lifelong deprivation of driver’s license,” Alexander Kurdyumov clarified.

He pointed out that he does not share the opinion of those politologists who claim that the increase of responsibility for violation of traffic regulations will only aggravate the situation.

“They say that a person who commits a crime will try to disappear. Well, they are trying to hide even now. One must understand that if he is driving drunk, and gets into an accident this crosses out his life or career. I do not see a problem here — do not drive if you are drunk, and you will not go to jail,” concluded the deputy of the State Duma.
