Service for Consumer Supervision of Russia: Quality of drinking water in Penza region not improved over the year

Penza, 6 November 2012. PenzaNews. The quality of drinking water in the Penza region has not significantly improved over the past year. Such conclusion was made by the regional experts of the regional Service for Consumer Supervision of Russia in the result of monitoring of drinking water for 9 months of 2012. “During the past period the share of drinking water that does not meet the requirements in microbiological indicators made 5,5%, which is 0,1% more than the same indices of 9 months of 2011,” the press service reported.

The Service for Consumer Supervision of Russia added that Shemysheysky, Issinsky, Bashmakovsky, Penza, Bessonovsky, Neverkinsky, and Belinsky areas have excess of average regional indices.

The share of drinking water samples not meeting hygienic requirements in chemical indicators nearly doubled — from 5,6% in 2011 to 10,7% in 2012.

“The main unresolved questions still are deterioration of water supply systems and structures, their improper maintenance, failure of sanitary protection of water sources, and the lack of measures supposed to reduce the content of certain chemicals in the drinking water,” emphasized the Service.

The Service for Consumer Supervision of Russia in the Penza region noted that during 9 months of 2012 they imposed 74 fine sentences totaling 177,600 rubles for violations of the sanitary legislation.
