Red Cross thanked Penza residents for helping Japanese victims of tsunami

Penza, 16 November 2012. PenzaNews. The community foundation “Civil Union” and Penza residents, who participated in the action “A thousand cranes” to raise funds to help children affected by the earthquake and the disaster that occurred at the nuclear power plant “Fukushima-1” in 2011, received words of gratitude.

“The letter also confirmed receiving 800 dollars, and reported that the money was sent to municipalities and prefectures most affected by tsunami and the nuclear disaster. The letter says that no administrative expenses were charged and taxes from this amount of money,” informed the Executive Director of the community foundation “Civil Union” Oleg Sharipkov.

He reminded that, from March to June 2011 as a part of the action they held several exhibitions of pictures by Japanese schoolchildren sent to Penza within the program of the International Peace-Education Foundation (EEMNS).

“The people of the region could purchase the picture they liked, make a donation or transfer money to the account of the foundation. Around 30 benefactors participated in the action “A thousand cranes,” the official commented.

According to Oleg Sharipkov, the virtual exhibition and sale also brought a certain amount of money.

“The money was transferred to the account of the Japanese Red Cross in June,” he concluded.
