Penza, 21 November 2012. PenzaNews. The modern Russian television is detached from the daily needs of people. This opinion was expressed by a well-known Penza journalist Dmitry Kulikov on World Television Day, November 21.

“Most of the air time is occupied by talk shows and other entertaining programs which do not provide food for thought and understanding of life,” he said.

According to Dmitry Kulikov, the entertaining programs, which require huge sums of money, are created to distract people from the problems of everyday life.

“Viewing these programs can be compared with reading “yellow pages,” as soon as you close it and throw into the trash, you forget what it was about,” the agency interlocutor noted.

According to him, high rating of such shows is explained by the fact that “the Russian people have always been and remain susceptible to entertainment.”

“Moreover, most modern TV shows in Russia are replicas of the western shows, they are aired under license, which also consume considerable amounts of money,” Dmitry Kulikov pointed out.

However, the journalist underlined that the main task of television should be providing objective information about events in the country and abroad.

According to Dmitry Kulikov, the prospects of successful creation of public television in Russia are very doubt.

“Presently Russian television almost does not make its own programs. It is difficult to talk about the future popularity of the channel, which could be called “public.” Now there are no people in the country, who create interesting programs,” he said.

Speaking about the level of television quality in the Penza region, Dmitry Kulikov said that over the past few years it has grown considerably.

However, the agency interlocutor added that there is a lack of “austere news channel to inform about the events in the Penza region around the clock.”

“The tendency to air live news has exhibited worldwide. In our country, there is a quality news channel “Russia-24.” However, the regional television airs news only several hours or even a day after the event,” he explained.

Reflecting on the future of television in general, Dmitry Kulikov expressed the view that, despite the rapidly growing popularity of the Internet, most people will not give up television as the source of information.

“People want to watch TV and will continue watching it, and the task of producers and directors is to try not to discourage the viewers,” concluded the journalist.
