“By destroying chemical weapons, we are enhancing the security of population and environment. Munitions have a limited shelf life, and if we do not detoxicate them, a disaster may happen any time,” he stressed.

Valery Kapashin added that work on the destruction of complex designed munitions would be carried out according to a specific schedule with all the safety requirements followed.

According to Valery Kapashin, the processing line for complex designed munitions destruction of “Leonidovka” facility will operate for three years and then will be stopped forever.

“Leonidovka” facility in the Penza region stored about 7 tons of toxic agents. Today, over 90% of them have been destroyed.

To date, Russia has recycled 28 thousand tons of chemical weapons, which is 70% of all stock available.
