Penza, 18 December 2012. PenzaNews. Reasons which prompted the owners of Penza bakeries No. 2 and No. 4 of the holding “Stoylenskaya Niva” to raise by 15% the prices for socially important types of bread, bought mainly by the representatives of the underpaid social strata, are not clear. This opinion was stated by the political scientist Anatoly Bodrov on Tuesday, December 18.

“Every business is built in such a way that it may not earn in some products, but it compensates at the cost of others. It would have been natural to observe the growth of price for “elite” types of bread. But it is truly puzzling when the price growth affects socially important goods purchased by only 20–30% of the population,” Anatoly Bodrov told news agency “PenzaNews.”

He also suggested that the social protest is caused not even by the fact of price growth, but the lack of obvious reasons for this.

According to Anatoly Bodrov, growth of rates bothers the society even more than bread prices.

“People are used to the fact that there is inflation, growth of prices for goods and services. However, in Penza, I do not know why, they are very sensitive about the growth of transportation service fees. Almost every increase leads to social protests,” he explained.

As for the possibility of social and political tension increase due to the growth of prices for bread in Penza, Anatoly Bodrov told news agency PenzaNews that the situation is not as critical as it could have been five years ago.

“There is no the very monopoly we used to have before. There are many producers in the market, so I doubt that the price growth will lead to some kind of social upheaval,” he concluded.
