“Recently, a tendency for the common law marriages has grown which does not contribute to the positive demography dynamics. We have to figure out how to convince young people to register their relationship and have children. Today young people live as they call it, “for themselves,” Vasily Bochkarev said.

The head of the region noted that it is necessary to develop a federal project to support young families in order to encourage them to have children in the first year of their life together.

In turn, Sergei Belokonev said that the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia plan to come up with proposals for modernization program of providing affordable housing for young families.

“We must understand that the main task of the state today is not simply providing apartments to all young families, but providing them with affordable housing, which could be purchased if willing,” he stressed.
