Penza, 8 February 2013. PenzaNews. Penza Region is the region with dangerous roads. Such conclusion was made by the experts of interregional public center “For safe roads in Russia” based on the results of 2012. According to the data, over the past year 2,251 accidents with 296 people killed and over 2,940 people injured were registered in the region.

In the ranking, compiled by the experts, the Penza region took 25th place somewhere in the middle of the “red” danger zone, which included 19 regions-outsiders: among them are also the Samara region, Tatarstan, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The safest roads are in the Belgorod, Novosibirsk, Saratov, Volgograd regions, Udmurtia, and Stavropol Krai, which were placed in the “green” zone.

“Some regions were estimated low because of inefficiency of public utility services during the first winter month,” the head of the interregional center “For safe roads in Russia” Dmitry Leontev told news agency “PenzaNews.”

At the same time, in his opinion, some regions improved road safety due to technical means.

“In Tyumen, navigation system monitors the length of road cleaning, and finds careless contractors. Also emergency brigades now arrive in 11 minutes within the city, and in 19 minutes — on federal highways. However, 88% of accidents are caused by the drivers violating traffic rules. In other words, the problem is ideological and requires explanatory work with population,” the agency interlocutor said.

As news agency PenzaNews reported earlier, the Penza region was rated 9th, thus occupying a place in the “green” zone, based on the results of 2011.
