Penza, 11 April 2013. PenzaNews. Three students of Penza Sports School “Vityaz” — Mikhail Shokun, Istek Nufarov, and Yegor Chizhov — won gold medals at the World Shotokan Karate Championship held in Istanbul.

The young athletes performed in 14–15-year-old group and came to the top in competition in kata.

Furthermore, in 10–11-year-old group in Karate Kumite according to “Shobu-ippon,” another Penza wrestler Gennady Krivtsov took the second place. In matches according to WKF karate he performed the third.

In Kumite, the bronze medal went to Gleb Merkulov, Istek Nufar, and Ekaterina Tikhomirova.

All the athletes presented the national team of Sports Karate Federation of Russia.

The total number of sportsmen participating in the championship amounted to almost two thousand wrestlers from 45 countries, the Internet service “Penza-Sport” reported.
