“The region has about 200 springs, 19 of them are located in Penza. None of them is a source of drinking water, because so far there have been no hydrogeological studies and industrial water quality control conducted, and there are no balance holders of the springs,” the service explained.

The department added that the results of the sample study, conducted in the first quarter of 2013, showed that water quality does not meet the standards in ten wells, located in Penza.

“As a rule, spring water quality deteriorates during floods and torrential rains. In many ways, this is due to the fact that in the protected zones of some springs there are houses and waste pits,” the press service pointed out.

The regional Service for Customer Supervision clarified that the district administration had been repeatedly informed of the need to place special warning signs by all the springs about the necessity to boil the water.

“In addition, the springs should be properly equipped and kept under laboratory control,” the service summed up.
