Modernization of railway station began in Penza

Penza, 16 April 2013. PenzaNews. Modernization work at “Penza-I” railway station, including the station building, hotel, underground crosswalks, and passenger platforms, began in Penza.

As the press secretary of Kuibyshev railway of the Penza region Alevtina Goldinova told news agency “PenzaNews,” the work plan has three stages.
“The first stage will transform external shape of the station and the hotel. The suspended ventilated facade with a bright yellow pediment will seclude the walls of the building from the side of the station and the area near the station. Glass windows, stained-glass windows and doors will be replaced by translucent aluminum constructions. Also, it is planned to repair a deadlock tunnel which is the exit to the platforms, the agency interlocutor said, adding that the first stage of work should be finished before the 350th anniversary of Penza in September 2013.
Alevtina Goldinova added that the second stage includes repair of the tunnel, passenger platforms, replacement of communication systems of the station - heating, water supply and drainage, and also decorative works.
“The third stage dwells on the roof cover, illumination, creation of friendly environment for people with limited physical abilities. It is planned that modernization of the station will take three years, till 2016,” Alevtina Goldinova explained.
According to the press secretary of Kuibyshev railway of the Penza region, over 160 million rubles will be allocated from the budget of JSC “Russian Railways” for the implementation of the first stage of the project.
Passenger circulation at the railway station “Penza-I” amounts to around 1,5 million people a year. Depending on the season, “Penza-I” serves from 30 to 45 passenger trains and 10 suburban trains.The station provides transport communication with cities of the Volga region, North Caucasus, Urals regions, central areas of Russia, and also Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
