Regional center of presidential library named after Boris Yeltsin to open in Penza in May

Penza, 19 April 2013. PenzaNews. The regional center of the presidential library named after Boris Yeltsin will be opened in the Penza regional library named after M. Lermontov in May. It is expected that the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements will take place in the presence of CEO of the presidential library named after Boris Yeltsin Alexander Vershinin as a part of VIII annual conference of Russian Library Association to be held in Penza May 12-17.

According to the deputy head of the regional department of culture and archive of the Penza region Kirill Zastrozhny, the center will be one of the largest in the Middle Volga region, and it will enable the residents of the Penza region to have access to rare documents.

As the press service of Penza regional library named after M. Lermontov told news agency “PenzaNews,” currently the presidential library named after Boris Yeltsin has one branch in Tyumen and 35 centers in different regions of Russia.

The presidential library named after B. Yeltsin is one of the three national libraries of Russia, which collects and stores in digital form printed and archival materials, sound recordings, videos and other materials which reflect the long history of the Russian state, the theory and practice of law, as well as the Russian language.

The main task of the library is to provide free public access to the cultural heritage of Russia in digital form, including sources, a wide range of which used to be inaccessible.

In accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated June 18, 2007, branches of the library should be established in all regions of the Russian Federation.
