Penza, 22 April 2013. PenzaNews. Eleven HIV-positive residents of the Penza region died in the first quarter of 2013. This was reported by the press service of the regional Service for Customer Supervision on Monday, April 22.
“During the period from January to March, 67 cases of HIV infection has been registered in the region, the morbidity rate amounted to 4,87 per 100 thousand people,” the service representative explained.
The Service added that 51,5% of registered HIV-infected people are aged 20-29.
“According to the epidemiological investigation, in the first quarter of 2013, sexual transmission prevailed, it accounted to 50,2% of newly diagnosed cases. Intravenous drug injection transmission was found in 43,1% of cases,” the press service noted.
According to the regional Service for Customer Supervision data, during the first three months of the current year, 10 HIV-infected pregnant women delivered babies.
“All the 10 mother-infant couples received a three-stage chemoprophylaxis of HIV infection,” the agency interlocutor explained.
