Penza, 26 April 2013. PenzaNews. Penza homeowners insure their property against total or partial destruction during spring floods. This was announced by the acting head of the regional administration for housing and communal services of the Penza region Yuri Ilyin during a meeting with journalists at the press center of news agency PenzaNews on Friday, April 26.

“Many people have insured their property. The number of cases increased among those homeowners who live in areas of regular flooding. And this is a good thing. I hope that in 2014 this number will grow even more,” Yuri Ilyin commented.
However, the head of the department noted low activity of the general population when it comes to protection of their homes from flooding.
“When it begins to flood the housing territory, all you need to do is shovel off the snow jam, and the water is gone. But people are waiting for someone else to do it for them,” Yuri Ilyin said.
He reminded about the situation that occurred in Narovchatsky area when the deputy head of administration had to come to one of the houses personally and dig a ditch in the snow to free the flow of melt water rescuing all domestic constructions from partial flooding.
“Thank God, we do not have the incidents like those in the neighboring region, where people flooded the creek, and the water came to their houses. They did it in order to obtain money compensation. The amount of it is quite large now, so it is possible that people create emergency situations themselves,” Yuri Ilyin pointed out.
According to him, flood recession in the Penza region started on April 9, and emergency situation alert was terminated on April 17.
