Yuri Alpatov: Preserving historical truth about war is duty of all Russians

Penza, 9 May 2013. PenzaNews. Preserving the historical truth about the harsh years of the Great Patriotic War is the sacred duty of every citizen of Russia. This opinion was expressed by the head of the city of Penza Yuri Alpatov, in his greeting speech to the people of the region on Victory Day on Thursday, May 9.

“Dear veterans! Dear friends! I heartily congratulate you on Victory Day! No matter how many years have passed since May 1945, this long-awaited, hard-won Victory Day will always be our truly national holiday, a clear indication of the highest courage of the Soviet people, the unique unity of effort of the front and rear in the face of the cruel enemy,” he stressed.
Yuri Alpatov said the word of special gratitude to the participants of the Great Patriotic War, the home front, as well as those in the postwar years, restoring the ruined cities and the national economy.
“The memory of the people will always preserve the dedication and courage of those who overcame all the obstacles. This victory suffered through by the older generation gave us the opportunity to live in peace, work, love, enjoy seeing children and grandchildren,” the head of the city pointed out.
“Let the St. George ribbons which we traditionally carry close to the heart on this day, remind us of our loyalty to the ideals of the older generation, who spared no effort and life for the sake of our common victory. Bless you, dear veterans, live as long as possible! I wish you peace, patience, harmony, and happiness. Let the sky above your children and grandchildren be cloudless!” Yuri Alpatov said.
