Penza, 30 May 2013. PenzaNews. The Internet is like “a powerful information bomb” effecting people, it often promotes the ideas of extremism, terrorism and intolerance in the Russian society, and thus the network should constantly be monitored by the government. This opinion was expressed by the Acting Rector of Penza State University Alexander Gulyakov in his welcoming speech to the participants of the forum of the Volga Federal District “Choice of Youth — the Internet without Terrorism,” which was opened on Thursday, May 30.

“Today, the issues of extremism and terrorism are very acute, which creates serious problems to our peaceful existence. This reveals even at minor levels. The fact is that we are not used to negotiating problematic issues. This is why we need to restructure the system of human relationships. And it is the youth who must start doing this, who, having received the correct emotional charge, will broadcast it into the society,” the head of PSU commented.

He reminded that propaganda of extremism and terrorism in Russia provides for serious criminal responsibility.

“It is important to ensure that the law is respected. I believe that any violations in this area should be strictly suppressed by the government,” he stressed.

As news agency PenzaNews reported earlier, the forum “Choice of Youth — the Internet without Terrorism” held in Penza, involved students and scholars from different regions of the Volga Federal District. Their task is to develop a strategy to combat extremism and terrorism on the Internet, to involve as many active users of the Russian Internet as possible, including the members of student organizations and informal youth associations.
