Penza, 4 July 2013. PenzaNews. Reconstruction of the “old” runway of Penza airport 2100 meters long was postponed, presumably until the middle of September. This was announced by governor Vasily Bochkarev during a meeting with reporters in Penza airport after returning from Moscow, where he was with a working visit.

“The Anti-Monopoly Committee declared the results of the tender invalid and canceled them. Now the new tender will be held, which means that the beginning of reconstruction is delayed until the middle of September,” the head of the region said.

As the director of Penza airport Yuri Oskolkov explained, reconstruction was only suspended partially.

“Reconstruction will continue. It is only the contract for the runway repair which is delayed. This means that the money in the amount of 738 million rubles has not been fully approved, while the contracts for the total amount of 233 million rubles have been signed. So, the building of the rescue team will be completed, the airport will be equipped with independent power generator because the new runway with its new light signal equipment requires almost twice as much power. The work will be in progress,” he stressed.

“I am going to inform all Russian airports that Penza opens the “old” runway which was closed for reconstruction,” Yuri Oskolkov summed up.
