239 residents of Penza region bitten by stray dogs from beginning of 2013

Penza, 17 July 2013. PenzaNews. According to the data presented by the Federal Service for Customer Supervision, stray animals bit 239 people in the Penza region during 6 months of 2013. This was announced by the deputy state veterinary inspector of the Penza region Alexander Kotin during a meeting on “The problem of the coexistence of people and stray animals” on Wednesday, July 17.

Alexander Kotin noted that supervision over stray animals was fully transferred to the municipalities according to the law adopted in 2011. Almost every municipality currently has a stray animal shelter.
“2,053 stray animals were captured in 2011, for this matter the municipal budget allocated 6,5 million rubles, and 10 million rubles were spent for capturing 5 thousand animals in 2012. Capturing and keeping an animal for 30 days costs 2,5 thousand rubles,” the deputy state veterinary inspector of the Penza region Alexander Kotin commented.
The outcome of the meeting was the decision to appeal to the governor of the Penza region Vasily Bochkarev with a proposal to consider cooperation in constructing a multi-purpose shelter for stray animals in the regional center as a part of preparation for celebration of the 350th anniversary of Penza and assisting in the matter of land allocation.
