Festival “Day of the Sura River” to be held in Penza

Penza, 13 August 2013. PenzaNews. Festival “Day of the Sura River” dedicated to the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the city and the Year of the environment, will be held on September 7–14 in Penza.
As the chairman of Penza regional branch of the Russian Geographic Society (RGS) Igor Pantyushov told news agency “PenzaNews,” the event is intended to promote respect for the river and nature in general.
He explained that the first stage of the festival would be the environmental cleaning that would start on the waterfront of the Sura River on Saturday morning, September 7.
“The second stage – environmental education – will include Penza poets’ and bards’ performances, who will also join the clean-up. It is expected that students, teachers and staff of various Penza organizations will also take part in it,” he said.
According to Igor Pantyushov, as a part of the festival, different environmental actions will take place in the areas of the Penza region.
“At the end of the holiday, there will be a concert on the bank of the Sura River that will take place on Saturday, September 14. There will also be workshops of tourists and environmentalists, an exhibition and performance of bards and poets,” the chairman of Penza regional branch of RGS concluded.
