According to a former inmate of a children’s home Alexander Lezhnev, despite the fact that this housing is secondary, it is much better than what was originally allocated to the orphans in new semi-detached houses.

“Those houses are built in the outskirts — a few kilometers away from school, kindergarten, hospital and shopping center. There are no lights in the streets, and the road is almost impassable in rainy weather,” he explained.

In addition, Alexander Lezhnev reminded that the houses were constructed on the territory with underground springs, due to that cracks appeared in the basement and walls, the tiles fell off, in some rooms there was water on the floor which caused mold.

“Wallpaper was hastily hung with pieces of different color, linoleum was laid in the same manner, and sockets fell out of the walls, the gas pipes were sealed because of the contractor’s debt, the sinkhole can hardly be reached — and this is not the entire list of problems which we came across in the newly constructed housing,” he added.

According to Alexander Lezhnev, over six months the orphans spent in the receptions of various authorities with no result, but the situation was resolved when they wrote a collective letter to the coordinator of Penza regional branch of the Liberal Democratic Party, Mikhail Usov.

“On the very next day our issue was given for consideration to the lawyers of the Liberal Democratic Party. An official act was compiled which proved that the authority of Kamenka allocated to the orphans apartments unsuitable for living,” Alexander Lezhnev said adding that after this the authorities decided not to bring the case to the court.

“All the applicants were invited to the district administration, and presented with the keys to the apartments from the secondary market in the city center instead of hastily constructed ones. Prior to this episode, the local officials claimed that all that the Liberal Democratic Party representatives can do is speaking well, but it turned out that without them, we would have remained out of sight,” the agency interlocutor concluded.
