More than 1,800 people infected with HIV in Penza region

Penza, 25 October 2013. PenzaNews. The total number of HIV positive people in the Penza region, including the diseased, moving into and out of the region is 1,800 people, registered in the last 9 months of 2013. The press service of the regional office of Russian agency for Health and Consumer rights said it to news agency PenzaNews on Friday, October 25.

“During the specified period of time there were detected 188 cases of HIV infection among residents permanently living in the Penza region, which is 6% lower than a year ago. Taking into account people with the diagnosis, arriving in the region, and foreigners, there are 209 cases of HIV infection registered, which is 1,4% lower than in 2012. However, the all-region morbidity rate in Penza has been increasing starting from 2011. In the last 9 months it is 11,8%,” the office said.

The press service added that within the period there was one case of the disease registered among children, with three cases registered a year ago.

“There is also one case of the disease among adolescents, a 17-year-old girl got infected,” the office of Russian agency for Health and Consumer rights said.

The office noted that the number of deceased HIV positive people is 42, which 9 people more than a year ago.

“This year 10 people have died directly in the result of HIV infection,” the office concluded.
