One of the most notable events was the campaign “The names return,” organized by the monument “Pokayanie” (Repentance), which gathered about 70 participants.
The leader of the Penza branch of the historical and educational charitable human rights organization “Memorial” Tatiana Alferteva pointed out that such events help remember tragic moments in the national history.
Addressing those, who came in the Cleric Church of Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the archpriest Alexey drew attention to the fact that in modern life it is important to give an accurate assessment to the days of repression.
“In the last century, the struggle was waged against our people – a real bloody terror, when millions of people were persecuted for their beliefs, when absolutely anyone could be declared a public enemy and sentenced to execution,” he said.
According to the archpriest, a similar situation could happen again, if the younger generation did not know the history of their homeland and did not draw the lesson from it.
Representatives of the Unified Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Penza region, the regional branch of the Union of Cossacks of Russia and relatives of the victims of political repressions also gave their speeches as part of the event.
