For the first time ever 13 professors were given the title “Honorary professor of PSU” as part of the event.
The acting actor Alexander Gulyakov and the chairman of the regional government Yuri Krivov presented the honorary professors with diplomas, certificates and gowns.
During the meeting of the academic council Alexander Gulyakov gave a speech to recall the university history.
“70 years ago in the building No. 1 there was given the first lecture for students of Industrial Institute, who were evacuated from fascist-occupied Odessa. It is 1 November 1943 that is considered the University Foundation Day. But the university has a rich prehistory,” Alexander Gulyakov remarked.
Alexander Gulyakov elaborated on the events associated with the name of Peter Parshin, whose initiative and determination allowed setting up Penza Industrial Institute in 1943.
“Taking advantage of the presence of the regional government chairman, I suggest next year on October 17 – on the Peter Parshin’s birthday – calling one of the Penza streets after his name, at least a newly built one,” the head of PSU said.
In the report Alexander Gulyakov also summarized the main results of the university activities and shared the plans for the coming years.
