Penza, 9 December 2013. PenzaNews. The solemn meeting devoted to the Day of Heroes of Motherland was held at the embankment of the Sura river on Monday, December 9.

The chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region Ivan Belozertsev addressed to veterans and the younger generation who gathered near the stela “Glory to Heroes.”

“People whose names are immortalized here, for all of us, are an example of selfless devotion to Motherland,” he said.

The head of the city administration Roman Chernov, in his turn, remarked that the celebration of the Day of Heroes of Motherland is of particular importance to those Russians who are now trying to restore the historical justice and acquaint the general public with the names of compatriots who made a significant contribution to the development of the country.

After the speeches of the officials, the participants of the solemn meeting paid tribute to the memory of the fallen heroes holding a moment of silence.

The ceremony ended with laying wreaths and flowers to the stela “Glory to Heroes.”
